Since 1978, stakeholders in the labor and management arena have gathered annually as a body to collectively review their operations and strategic directions based upon insights from some of the nation's leading experts. They have come to network among peers and jointly discuss both recurring and new issues affecting labor & management.
This annual forum consistently attracts nationally recognized speakers, deals with timely and significant issues from the perspectives of management, labor and neutrals, and provides stimulating exchanges of views on, and approaches to, labor relations. In addition to daily seminars, speakers and participants continue discussions in informal surroundings after hours. The program content is annually developed by a distinguished group of business executives, labor leaders, arbitrators, public officials and academics.
The program generally includes participation by senior officers of local and international labor unions, senior management and labor relations professionals as well as experts from the legal and financial professions and health care, often including the president of the American Medical Association. All participate in a diversity of panels and discussion formats.
Historical sponsors and co-sponsors of the program have included CLIR - the Council on Labor & Industrial Relations of the New York Institute of Technology, the Harry Van Arsdale School of Labor Studies of Empire State College and the Greater New York Safety Council. The current educational co-sponsor of the conference is New York City College of Technology. In 2000, NLMC Inc. was separately incorporated to carry on the tradition of this conference. Mr. Louis L. Levine serves as chairman. Mr. Levine also served as Labor Commissioner under three New York governors and brings a perspective of service with the CIO and AFL-CIO, and as Corporate Vice President of Empire Blue Cross - Blue Shield, Deputy Board Chairman of Group Health, Inc. and currently as President of the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. He has taught at Stevens Institute, CCNY, CW Post and the New School for Social Research. Mr. Levine is one of the founders of the Harry Van Arsdale School of Labor Studies of Empire State College, State University of New York.
